Couple of Crumbs

Hi! Welcome to our little blog, run by two old friends who just want to have a place to write... anything we please. Thanks for stopping by!

Funfetti is trying to defy the evils of writer's block one project at a time.

Red Velvet is a quirky little cupcake trying to channel her inner writer.

Bright Light #4: Great Life Expectations

Sadly, we have come to the final entry of our Life Unexpected series. What a ride it has been! We never thought we would be writing more than four entries in a month, or hearing from Jeff Meshel (one of the casting directors), Austin Basis (Math!), or Shiri Appleby (CATE!). Or receiving compliments from Kristoffer Polaha (Baze). A month later, we are still blown away by all the support we’ve received from new and old readers. In a few words: it’s been completely awesome.

Our original goal with the Life Unexpected series was to introduce the show to a few new people, new fans. We hope we’ve accomplished that.

So here it goes: our thoughts and hopes for the upcoming season. Don’t forget to set your DVRs, plan a premiere party, mark your calendars. September 14th. BE THERE.

Funfetti: When we last saw our Life Unexpected friends, there was a wedding. Baze threw open the doors of the church and Cate kissed Ryan. She “accepted reality” and “got the fantasy”. Or did she? I guess we shall see very soon.

I’m always apprehensive about the second season of a show. Viewers have high expectations after they invest themselves so fully into a story and its characters. (Dawson’s Creek was never the same after Season 1… that was a heartbreaker.) So I can’t help but be cautious. Will I continue to feel just as connected to the characters? Will the storylines remain creative and unique and relatable? For LUX, I hope so. I have faith we may get all we have been waiting for.

I’m curious to see how a marriage fits into this new family. A marriage that does not include Lux’s parents. Will Baze and Ryan bond (will I ever stop calling him Jack)? Will Math have a more prominent role due to my affections? Will Baze date someone else? What will Lux think of this (will it be an improvement over Abby) and most importantly, how will Cate react? What about Bugs and Jones? Will Lux be caught in between? Will she make friends at school? Will Baze’s business start picking up even more? How about his relationship with his dad? So many questions, infinite possibilities.

After rewatching the season (thanks iTunes!) and working on this series (not to mention, connecting with those affiliated with the show), my affections for LUX have grown deeper. I am in my mid-twenties and do not relate to the Gossip Girl/90210-ness of TV land. I like that I can watch a show that my mom watches (yes it’s true) and no one is embarrassed. People of all ages, situations, whatever can relate to LUX on so many different levels and that’s what makes it so special. And on September 14th, you can bet I’ll be sitting on my couch anxiously awaiting the opening scenes. Here’s to a fantastic, funny, (surprising) thought-provoking season 2!

Red Velvet:  Since the season finale of Life Unexpected, the question on my mind has been - what’s going to happen between Baze and Cate (and Lux) now?  They had just started to act like a real family.  Baze and Cate mutual feelings were coming to a head.  But with Cate married to Ryan (thanks, in part, to Lux’s pre-wedding pep talk), things are going to be different for our favorite characters.

I think (and hope) that Season 2 will explore how every relationship we’ve come to love over the last season will change.  Baze knows and accepts his feelings for Cate.  Cate is married to Ryan but knows some (big!) part of her loves Baze.  Lux’s relationship with her parents is constantly evolving but now there’s a stepfather (strange but true) to consider as well.  Baze and Ryan’s lives are intertwined as a result.  For the good, the bad and the ugly - these four are stuck with each other.

I never expected (hah!) to become a huge fan of the show after watching that first episode.  It was a TV show I was curious to check out because I loved Shiri Appleby on Roswell and because the promos reminded me of old school WB.  Now, look at me!  I’m counting down the days until it starts up again in September, excitedly pouring over new photos and promos.  And because of that, I’m not worried about how season 2 will play out.  I just want it to start so I can see what happens.
