Couple of Crumbs

Hi! Welcome to our little blog, run by two old friends who just want to have a place to write... anything we please. Thanks for stopping by!

Funfetti is trying to defy the evils of writer's block one project at a time.

Red Velvet is a quirky little cupcake trying to channel her inner writer.

Remembering the Creek: The Music

Music was an integral part of Dawson’s Creek. Practically a main character. While Paula Coles’ “I Don’t Wanna Wait” was always a questionable choice for a theme song… it even grew on us after awhile. The show was genius for blending songs of new artists (some who don’t even exist anymore) and some ridiculously awesome old standbys (Dave Matthews Band, Everclear, Joni Mitchell, Barenaked Ladies, James Taylor). Not to mention, such fitting choices enhanced all of the most important scenes of the show.

For part 3 of our Dawson’s Creek series, these cupcakes have decided to make their own individual playlists, filled with their favorite music from the show. Twenty songs a piece, some of them overlapping, but still plenty different.

Red Velvet

  1. I’ll Remember You (Sophie Zelmani): There’s something really romantic about a first kiss (Joey & Anderson) by the water, underneath the stars.
  2. My Invitation (Sarah Slean): Who doesn’t get chills every time Pacey whispers to Joey - “I remember everything.”
  3. Sound of Settling (Tara MacLean): Pacey & Joey kiss! Woo!
  4. The Right Place (Eddie Reader): Again, I hear this song and I remember Joey playing frisbee with Anderson on the beach.  I kinda liked him.  It was nice to see Joey come out of her shell a bit.
  5. I’ll Stand By You (The Pretenders): Joey running from Dawson’s room as he yells out - “Usually in the mornings with Katie Couric!” (So didn’t need that visual). But still, classic season 1.
  6. You Don’t Know Me (Jann Arden): Really pretty, relatable song (Joey looks on as Jen and Dawson slow dance.)
  7. I’ll Be (Edwin McCain): Who doesn’t associate this song with the show?
  8. Broken Road (Melodie Crittenden): I loved most, if not all, the songs from the season 1 finale - this was playing after Joey found Jen & Dawson in bed together.
  9. Say Goodnight (Beth Neilsen Chapman): Another classic from the season 1 finale - Joey & Dawson kiss.
  10. Did You Ever Love Someone (Jessica Simpson): Pacey & Andie’s dance and first kiss on the pier.  This moment made me  wholeheartedly root for them as a couple.
  11. Paper Cup (Heather Nova): Another romantic Pacey & Andie moment — they visit the aforementioned pier and talk about how that moment felt.  Gosh, I really loved these two together at the time.
  12. Have A Little Faith In Me (John Hiatt): I just love this song, plain and simple.
  13. Hands (Jewel): I can’t remember what Dawson & Joey were talking about but I just recall him crying in her arms as this song played in the background.
  14. Who Needs Sleep (Barenaked Ladies): Just because I love the “All-Nighter” episode.
  15. How (Lisa Loeb) - The carnival episode where Joey sells her first painting, receives a sweet kiss on the forehead from Jack and comes home to find her estranged father standing on the doorstep.
  16. I Could Be the One (Donna Lewis): A fun song that accompanied a fun scene (Joey modeling with Jack rooting her on).
  17. Feels Like Home (Chantal Kreviazuk): A time when I actually liked these two couples (Joey/Dawson, Pacey/Andie) - it was nice to see them all together and happy.
  18. Daydream Believer (Mary Beth Maziarz): One of my favorite Pacey/Joey scenes.  Joey finally kisses Pacey.
  19. I Will Be There For You (Jessica Andrews): Even though I hate how Dawson sets Joey “free”, I do love that Joey wastes no time running to Pacey’s boat (with this song playing in the background).
  20. Days Like These (Janis Ian): Pacey and Joey sail away on True Love.

Funfetti

  1. Hey Pretty Girl (BoDeans): The first song of the series. Jen emerges from the taxi. (All hell breaks loose?)
  2. Nightswimming (REM): Post-Mr. Leery’s death, Dawson seeks solace in Jen. An interesting twist of events, for sure. I always enjoyed Dawson more when he was loosened up and being real.
  3. London Rain (Heather Nova): I had such anticipation for Season 2. This song was in the promos and of course, at the beginning of Joey and Dawson’s first “official” date. It made me a Heather Nova fan for life. Listened to the CD until it was so scratched, I couldn’t anymore.
  4. Angel (Sarah McLachlan): Joey talks to her dad. I don’t think there was a dry eye in the house.
  5. That I Would Be Good (Alanis Morissette): This song actually plays multiple times throughout the show. To me, it’s about Jen because all she wants is goodness and happiness in her life. But I think it fits everyone at one point or another.
  6. Good Mother (Jann Arden): A sweet Joey/Bessie moment.
  7. Did You Ever Love Somebody? (Jessica Simpson): Andie and Pacey banter, and have one of the most romantic moments of the show. I love that dock with the lights.
  8. Fall from Grace (Amanda Marschall): Played this part on repeat all the time. Pacey enters the pageant and looks incredibly handsome and charming.
  9. Hold On (Mary Beth Maziarz): Pacey and Joey become friends.
  10. Who Needs Sleep? (Barenaked Ladies) The “All-Nighter” is one of my favorite episodes because all the characters are hanging out together (that didn’t happen a lot). Despite the Joey/Dawson divide, I liked the togetherness (and the group nap at the end).
  11. Both Sides Now (Joni Mitchell): The lyrics say it all. “I’ve looked at love from both sides now / From give and take and still somehow / It’s love’s illusions I recall / I really don’t know love at all.”  The break ups, the fights, the musical partners … each character was growing and changing in relationships and without them.
  12. Broken Road (Melodie Crittenden): Before this song was made super popular by Rascal Flatts, I remember loving it during the first season finale. Dawson is searching all over town for Joey. Favorite line: “Others who broke my heart, they were like northern stars / Pointing me on my way into your loving arms.”
  13. Feels like Home (Chantal Kreviazuk): I was rooting for Joey & Dawson at this point.
  14. Settling (Tara MacLean): Pacey finally kisses Joey. And the camera pans out.
  15. Fields of Gold (Eva Cassidy): Graduation. Changes. It’s a beautiful, bittersweet song during a substantial moment in the characters’ lives. “I never made promises lightly / And there have been some that I’ve broken / But I swear in the days still left / We will walk in fields of gold.”
  16. My Invitation (Sarah Slean): Joey and Pacey’s dance in “The Anti-Prom” still gives me shivers. I can’t even look at the TV the entire time. Gorgeous song and amazing moment.
  17. On My Own (Katie Holmes): I love this song for multiple reasons. Joey expresses her feelings for Dawson, while expressing Jen’s for Dawson too. And Joey steps out of her comfort zone in a big way.
  18. Take My Breath Away (Tuck & Patti): The emotion and chemistry in the scene where Joey decides to sleep with Pacey is too much for me to comprehend. Amazing.
  19. Juliette (Vanessa Daou): Joey and Pacey kiss while trapped in a KMart. It was a moment of hope for all the PJ fans out there. We remembered just how fantastic they were together, and was sure this was finally “forever.”
  20. Say Goodnight (Beth Nielsen Chapman): This is totally Joey and Dawson’s song and while I am a Pacey/Joey fan… I still love it. I was really happy for Joey when Dawson finally kissed her at the end of the first season. She finally got her chance. Something we could all relate to.
