Remembering the Creek: Our Series Finale
Well, we’ve inevitably come to the end of our first series. Sadly, it’s time to say goodbye to Dawson’s Creek again. It’s been quite a trip. We reminisced about the beginning, talked about what we liked, what we didn’t like, and discussed (our favorite) the music. Hey, even Joshua Jackson has caught the bug (SEE Pacey-Con)!
Now for our last entry. As promised, here’s how the series inspired us and brought us together. And because we are in way too deep when it comes to this show, where we think the characters are now… seven years after the season finale. Thanks for reading! RED VELVET:
Where the characters are now: I imagine that Joey and Pacey are now married, living in Brooklyn’s Park Slope with their 2-year old daughter. Jack and Doug are still living in Capeside and happily raising Jen’s daughter Amy. Dawson is still out in LA but “The Creek” has long since been cancelled (I know, I always hate on Dawson). But they all still get together back in Capeside at least twice a year.
The little secret: I was a Pacey/Joey fan early on but during Season 2, something about the banter between Pacey and Andie drew me in. I could appreciate how she immediately crushed on Pacey (I don’t know what was wrong with the other girls in Capeside). Their first kiss and dance on the pier was one of my favorite scenes. It wasn’t long before I started loving them together and shortly after, created my first website - Pacey & Andie’s Place (its finest moment: being named DC Site of Week and featured on the official e-newsletter). Looking back, it’s funny how many people I “met” through my love of this show. When I wanted to start the site, I e-mailed my favorite fan fiction writer for help (she ended up doing the whole thing for me and I had to figure it out from there). Then once I got into the swing of things, I turned to another fellow DC fan who I thought made great web banners - Funfetti - and we’ve been friends ever since. I was so dedicated to my site and the whole fan community. There are times when I miss being that passionate about something.
Impact: I’ve come to love many other TV shows (Lost anyone?) but none quite like this. Even when I wasn’t crazy about the story lines, the characters and their relationships kept me tuning in (minus their college years) until the series finale. Now, here we are still writing about it and it’s clear how much of an impression it left on us both.
FUNFETTI:
Where the characters are now: Joey started an independent imprint in New York City, where she lives most of the year with Pacey. She has also started writing her first novel, about her summer on True Love. Pacey still owns the Ice House, and travels back and forth occasionally. He and Joey spend most summers in Capeside. After Grams passed away, Jack got his PhD and is now a professor at a Boston college. Jack and Doug broke up after a few years, but still remain friends. Amy is almost 13, the typical teenager. Jack enjoys being a Dad, and Andie (working at a hospital) is close by to help with Amy. Dawson is in the middle of writing a new television series, is engaged, and also creating horror shorts for the web. The group tries to get together at least twice a year.
The little secret: Here is a fact I have only told a handful of people. I used to be the owner of Joshua Jackson Paradise, one of the biggest Josh sites during the Dawson’s Creek years. My love for Josh started when the show did. I remember looking around the web and realizing there was nothing too comprehensive on him out there. So, I spent my awkward years (middle school), teaching myself HTML and the art of designing graphics. I used Tripod to host the site (those were the days), I may have moved to Geocities at one point, and then I got hosted at eFanGuide.com and they bought me a domain (joshua-jackson.net). I finally had to close the site sometime during high school. I just didn’t have the time like I used to. Looking back, it’s hard to imagine having so much passion for something that you dedicate all your time to it. But it was a great experience, and it led to me a friendship with Red Velvet. (We also teamed up at that time to start Static, a site that supported the Season 1 feel of the show and Wrecked, a Pacey/Joey “clique”.)
Impact: Dawson’s Creek was my therapy. I would close my door on Wednesday nights and would not be bothered. Someone the show always found a way to speak to me. It made me feel like I wasn’t alone. It was also this catalyst. It forced me to learn new things, be creative. I miss having this kind of connection with a show. It’s been seven years since it’s ended and I’m not sure another will match it.
