Couple of Crumbs

Hi! Welcome to our little blog, run by two old friends who just want to have a place to write... anything we please. Thanks for stopping by!

Funfetti is trying to defy the evils of writer's block one project at a time.

Red Velvet is a quirky little cupcake trying to channel her inner writer.

LUX Reviews: Oceans Uncharted

Funfetti:

After I finished watching the show last night I thought: WHO REALLY HAS IT ALL? Lux loses Bug when she doesn’t agree to be engaged (but she has her parents). Cate has Ryan but loses her job and sorta-semi loves Baze? Baze’s bar goes on fire, the woman he loves marries another guy, but he and his dad are getting back on track. Nothing ever goes right for everyone all the time – it’s just impossible. It’s also how they deal with it that matters. Welcome to Season 2 for sure.

I loved the episode. It was fast paced, new characters were thrown at you before you could even write their name down (I know, I tried). Last season, all of their problems/disasters stemmed from their own circle and now, before they have figured out their own roles or ironed out the kinks, the real world is interrupting. I like that, new challenges.

Speaking of new challenges, the episode left me with one strong feeling: go Baze go. I loved his drive, his attitude, his openness. (I could even forgive him for sleeping with Paige.) The way he ran into the bar when he thought Lux was in there, him telling Cate. His desire to “fix everything that was broken”. I am cheering you on, Baze! Rah! Rah!

Sidenote: Math with an umbrella in a fruity drink. Amazing. And did anyone notice this new calm to Lux’s character? I quite liked this side of her.

Red Velvet:

First things first, CATE AND BAZE. You know that’s what I’ve been waiting for! Every moment between them was so intense. From him begging her to talk, confessing he loved her, the hospital scene. And the question - whether or not he could’ve made a difference. Her response spoke volumes. Cate might’ve made the decision to be with Ryan but it’s clear things aren’t over yet. I can’t help but root for Baze - to fix his bar, turn his life around, be the great father that he is (but please, no more hooking up with Paige!).

But back to Ryan - seems like he might not be such a saint after all. Or at least this mysterious Julia is putting a dent in his perfect facade. Ryan’s great, don’t get me wrong. But it’s about time we delved into his past and shed some light on who he is. Between that and Cate getting fired, their marriage is off to an interesting start.

And Lux, poor girl.  She comes back from an (adorable!) family honeymoon to have her boyfriend propose and soon after, leave her. She just can’t catch a break.

The season premiere was a great set-up of things to come. We saw where everyone is post-wedding, new characters popped up and we’re continuing to explore the core issues of this unique family unit.

Welcome back Life Unexpected, we sure missed you!

P.S. My favorite line of the episode was Cate’s - “You didn’t burst into the church to tell me I had a parking ticket.”

Bright Light #4: Great Life Expectations

Sadly, we have come to the final entry of our Life Unexpected series. What a ride it has been! We never thought we would be writing more than four entries in a month, or hearing from Jeff Meshel (one of the casting directors), Austin Basis (Math!), or Shiri Appleby (CATE!). Or receiving compliments from Kristoffer Polaha (Baze). A month later, we are still blown away by all the support we’ve received from new and old readers. In a few words: it’s been completely awesome.

Our original goal with the Life Unexpected series was to introduce the show to a few new people, new fans. We hope we’ve accomplished that.

So here it goes: our thoughts and hopes for the upcoming season. Don’t forget to set your DVRs, plan a premiere party, mark your calendars. September 14th. BE THERE.

Bright Light #3.5: Tales of 2 Austins

With one more week left of August and our Life Unexpected series, it didn’t feel right to close up shop without mentioning Jones and Math, two supporting characters that these cupcakes have grown to really enjoy. Who wouldn’t? Jones is surprisingly charming and sincere, despite his quarterback reputation. And Math is a cuddly, sweater-vest wearing teacher who dispenses heartfelt advice, but also likes to make people laugh and throw back a few beers. We know we aren’t the only ones who are looking forward to reuniting with these characters September 14.

Happy reading! Just one more Life Unexpected entry to go…
