Couple of Crumbs

Hi! Welcome to our little blog, run by two old friends who just want to have a place to write... anything we please. Thanks for stopping by!

Funfetti is trying to defy the evils of writer's block one project at a time.

Red Velvet is a quirky little cupcake trying to channel her inner writer.

LUX of the future (!!)

By: Funfetti

For those of us who still haven’t given into the truth that Life Unexpected is over, it’s sort of hard to keep that fantasy running when you see previews for new CW shows starring Lux and Baze while you are working out at the gym. It’s amazing to think for a show that ran 26 episodes made such an imprint on so many viewers. Like all of you, I’m sad we will never see just how Baze and Cate got together, and what Lux wore to her prom (hope she wore sneakers!). So why oh why is Gossip Girl still on and LUX totally gone (not even a repeat played)? Because as our parents (and teachers, grownups, in general) have always told us: Life is not always fair. Well boo to that. I guess I’ll try to be mature throughout the rest of this blog, and accept that Kris will not be Baze, Britt will not be Lux, and so forth. See? I’m dealing.

First up is Kris, who will be starring with Sarah Michelle Gellar in “Ringer”. The plot sounds a bit soap opera-y: recovering alcoholic is in the process of reviving her relationship with her twin sister when sister drowns and the recovering alcoholic assumes her seemingly perfect sister’s identity. That’s a mouthful. I have to say – this show is like nothing on my TV schedule right now, and I am so looking forward to it. Drama, intrigue, mystery - I like it! I haven’t seen Kris in any of the promos yet but he plays perfect sister’s husband. I, for one, think Kris and Sarah could be a super hot couple… Ringer will be airing Tuesdays at 9pm.

Next we move on to Britt, who will be playing Cassie, an orphaned girl who moves in with her grandmother and soon finds out what she and her new friends are the descendants of witches, fated to complete “The Secret Circle” (I think you guessed the series title.) My old pal Kevin Williamson serves as producer on this show, based on a book series by L.J. Smith. I’ll admit, I love witches and I love Britt but I’m not so sure this show will be for me. It seems a little young, and coming from me, the girl who can watch cartoons with the best of them, it’s a crazy notion, I know. Maybe I just need to be convinced. I’m definitely going to tune in, although it will have to be on DVR because it interferes with the Grey’s Anatomy timeslot. (I’ve tried and tried to give up on this show, but I cannot.)

As for Shiri, you can catch her guest-starring on an episode of The USA Networks’ Royal Pains on July 13th. We can’t wait to hear what else she will be up to!

Sadly, nothing on the horizon for Kerr as of yet, but somehow I stumbled across this tid-bit recently. Kerr is the owner/brewer of the Venice Beach Brewing Co. in California. It seems like the endeavor is pretty new (locations don’t open until July of 2011), but if you are beer lover like me, it’s pretty exciting!

Last but not least, I can’t forget Liz Tigelaar who will be a consulting producer on ABC’s newest show, Once Upon a Time. Now this one is right up my alley (I also love Ginnifer Goodwin). Fairy tales living in REALITY. It’s the best thing I’ve heard in a long time, except well, it’s scary because of an Evil Queen’s curse. Of course. A son finds his mom (who is actually Snow White’s daughter) because he believes she is the key to saving all the characters we’ve heard during various bedtime stories. This is another show that is entirely different from anything I’ve been watching, and I can’t help but love how the accompanying music in the promo reminds me of Harry Potter – suspense and all! Don’t forget to set your TVs for 8pm on Sunday nights.

In all my excitement for the fall and new TV lineups, part of me remains a little cautious to dive into a new show, and like it so much only for it to become another TV casualty. It’s happened time & again to me - and I know it won’t be the last time - but shows like Young Americans, Summerland, Jack & Bobby - have all ended too soon. But if the only way we still can feel connected to LUX and show our allegiance is through the undivided support of these five people (and others!) who made it so special for us, then I’m game. I hope that all of you are too.

Looking Back: LUX Cast

By: Red Velvet

The two of us have been missing Life Unexpected lately and were desperate to spotlight the show again in SOME way. So after much back and forth, we thought thought it would be fun to backtrack and write about what the LUX cast did before, and (in a bittersweet way) what they’ve got coming up in the (near!) future. I just love this cast so much and how they brought the characters of Cate, Baze, Ryan and Lux to life.  Right before the show started, I remembered thinking that Shiri Appleby would always be Liz Parker and Kerr Smith would always be Jack McPhee in my mind. But they totally proved me wrong.  They just gave me more characters and another show to fall in love with.  And of course, LUX introduced me to Kristoffer Polaha and Britt Robertson (I don’t know how I didn’t hear about them before this!).  So it was fun to go back and reminisce about my old WB shows (as always) and also dig into Kris & Britt’s pre-LUX days.

 Shiri Appleby

The first time I saw Shiri Appleby was on Roswell, a show that quickly became one of my favorites on the WB.  It was about the lives of three regular teenagers, Liz (Shiri) Parker, Maria DeLuca and Alex Whitman, and the three aliens they befriended, Max Evans, Isabel Evans and Michael Guerin.  I re-watched the entire series recently on Netflix and I still love it (though they did have their low points - Season 3 anyone?).  But my favorite part of the show was always Shiri (I loved that she was this petite science geek who wrote in a journal) and her relationship with Max.  They had the whole star-crossed lovers thing down to a T.

Kristoffer Polaha

The only thing I remember of his pre-LUX days is a cameo on Roswell (and apparently Angel, House, Bones - I watch all these shows, how did I miss him?!).  But Funfetti recommended his made-for-TV movie, America’s Prince: The John F. Kennedy Jr. Story (she has a thing for the Kennedys).  I haven’t seen it yet but I’ll be sure to check it out (if I can find it).  In the mean time, here’s a little clip from the movie.  He’s so young and cute here! But I’ll always love him best as Baze.

Kerr Smith

Of course I am going to say.. Dawson’s Creek! It is by far the best thing he’s been in before LUX. Besides, my only other recommendation would be Final Destination and I don’t think it’s worth watching (sorry Kerr!).  But there was always something lovable about Jack McPhee.  He was kind of a dork at first, stole Joey from Dawson (I’m anti-Dawson so I didn’t mind that) and later became one of the bestest friends a girl could ask for (Jen was so lucky).  If you haven’t watched Dawson’s Creek before, WHAT PLANET HAVE YOU BEEN LIVING ON? Ahem. You should definitely check it out. (See: our Dawson’s Creek series!)

(Love the first few minutes! They were my other favorite relationship on Dawson’s Creek.)

Britt Robertson

Again, I didn’t know Britt until LUX premiered but right before that, she filmed a movie called Avalon High.  It’s a made-for-TV Disney movie based on a book by Meg Cabot (The Princess Diaries!) and takes a modern twist on King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table.  Seems fun and cute! (Just what you’d expect from the Disney Channel.  I’m a sucker for these kinds of movies.)

Or if you want more of a throw back, she also played one of Steve Carrell’s daughters in the  movie, Dan in Real Life.

(The audio is a little off)

Don’t forget to check back on Thursday for Funfetti’s post on what we can look forward to from our favorite LUX actors & actresses!

Missing LUX

Remember when Tuesdays meant looking forward to a new episode of Life Unexpected? It really wasn’t that long ago that this was our reality, but for some reason, it feels like eons, right? But rejoice! The complete first & second season were released on DVD TODAY. Woo! Have you picked up your copy yet?
